May Painters Contest (Birdfarm)
In an effort to maintain activity, and spur a steady content stream so that the farm can do a monthly release cycle, I'm announcing a painters contest for the month of May. Entries are to be submitted by the 14th of May, so that a pack can be put together and released for judging.
All models must adhere to the modelling standard set forth in the modelling standard thread(http://ysfbirdfarm.freeforums.org/model ... s-t47.html). The aircraft for this contest is any aircraft found in the Factory Hangar or a Monthly pack(That's here) section. Changes may be made to the aircraft's weapon loading, but no changes may be made to the airframe (this is after all a paint competition). The dat may not be significantly altered.
Since I screwed up last month and forgot to announce the costest, I'm announcing both at once. The two categories are: Euro Air Power (planes in European service, which is actually quite broad) and Crowd Pleasers (Airshow demonstrators, Ground exgibition planes, and technology demonstrators).
Light modifications and kitbashes will be allowed. Aircraft may only enter a single category. For those of you not in the know:
kitbashing - To take an existing model (or toy) and rework (or butcher) it into something different. The changes may be slight or dramatic.
In this case it must be still recognizeable without intense scrutiny, and must first be made avaialble in the factory hangar as a blank!
Paint the aircraft in any pattern or scheme you like. Submit aircraft by email to YSFBirdfarm@gmail.com with "MAY" in the Subject line.
Any questions comments criticisms, let me know via PM so I can address them. The birdfarm is pretty young, so we may need some support from YSP for this.

I'm not into GAC that much, but it seems like a nice way to spur up activity.

Re: January Painters Contest (Birdfarm)
Largely I want to do this, so we have enough new content each month to justify a monthyl official release. I'd feel a little silly just releasing one of two new birds a month.
As a rule the standards at the birdfarm allow more wiggle room and use of transparency than the stricter GAC rules. We also make a point of being open source with our planes and parts. for an example see the 3AW planes. Note that we have made some changes to the rules as far as cockpits go, to allow a more visially satisfying cockpit. For an example take a look at my F-15 SuperC. We really just need some painters to show people how good the blanks we have made can look.

I would love to join this and try my hand on that su-27 model man!
Great idea to organise this and get some models repainted for your birdfarm.
I'll try and make something you won't expect.
The transparent canopies are really well made by the way.

Re: January Painters Contest (Birdfarm)
Thanks, credit for the silhouette style cockpits actually goes to Iceman. Birdfarm might have been somethign that came from bombcat and I's heads, but Ice is the modellign mastermind. A bank of blank planes that anyone could use of modify just seemed like an awesome idea, almost like a YS aircraft wiki, where anyone can join the party.

Re: January Painters Contest (Birdfarm)
hey hey hey, the silhouette may be Icemans doing, but they where my idea when we where talking about 171st GAC pack. So it was 80% icemand and 20% Vandal (ideas are worth 20%).
Also a note to other squads, we have founf that using GAC for a combat squad has not taken away from the looks of our aircraft and has helped in the fight of lag, so maybe other squad would liek to look into a GAC pack to complement their full detail pack.

Re: January Painters Contest (Birdfarm)
Hmmmm... ok. I much prefer "real world" paint schemes over fictional ones. Channeling a large amount of the YS modeling community's resources into making fictional paint schemes does not really seem to me like a great idea.
I would much rather see modelers working cooperatively to add new real planes or paint schemes to the YS model library.
That is my opinion. Carry on, and enjoy your contest.

Re: January Painters Contest (Birdfarm)
Well this is a break from reality, because honestly, real world paints get boring REALLY fast. Which is why I pursue more of imagination and original creations with GAC more than anything. Though Kuro-nii's T-38 set qualifies as high-detail fictional paints, since they're suppose to be T-38s not F-5s.

"No one wants a war. But if one comes, we have to be prepared to fight it. Our instructors train all the other pilots, to speak from a position of strength. If the enemy then chooses; to attack us, he's gonna get a big surprise. Let him come ahead, and he won't do it again."

Who said you couldn't enter with a realistic paint scheme, or work on new aircraft blanks? We don't advocate fictional schemes only, but we refuse to DISCOURAGE them.
I agree with DragoonJ2 though, seeing reproduction paint schemes exclusively gets boring, and there are only a finite number of them. In addition once you've seen one in a particular scheme, you've pretty much seen them all in that scheme. It may be my limited experience with high detail models speaking, but I don't see any F-16's painted up in Asia Minor or Europ 1. All we see is that Hill AFB scheme that is standard on just about all USAF f-16's

Re: January Painters Contest (Birdfarm)
I did see it. Once I stop drooling over the screenshot of the F-38/T-5 in all black with red trim, I will download and fly em. The C-17's look pretty hot too. Great job overall.
I understand that other people have different preferences (fictional paint jobs versus realistic). Just sharing my opinion, for free even.

Re: January Painters Contest (Birdfarm)
Well sure. I think that the "T-38" schemes painted on F-5's is about as fictional as I get.
People dont have to download my addons or any for that matter. They're a gift of my spare time creating art. As for the contest, its their venue, the Birdfarm can do what it wants and invite others to follow or participate. Not a big deal. I as well prefer realistic schemes or near realistic type schemes myself.
I'm just glad to see more people painting and creating...good luck with the contest!

Re: January Painters Contest (Birdfarm)
I'm not a big fan of fictional paints either. Sometimes they jsut look like Iceman broke into an air base with his paint and started painting them. but, I DO like fictional 'what-if' paints. I'd like to see some SU-27 'what-if' paints.
And, if you want to make me smile even more, come up with a back-story to your 'what-if' paint.

Re: February Painters Contest (Birdfarm)
Okay, we have 5Aircraft in this month's paint competition so far. Can't wait to unveil them to the lot of you in a few days. New comers to the paint competition have thrown thier hat in the ring, a well as a veteran or two. Of interest is newcomer to the birdfarm, Kurosaki.
This month's pack promises to be huge, but I'd like to grab some oppinions from people: Should the february release include the January aircraft, and subsequent releases snowball from there?
I'd also like to see what everyone wants to paint. Maybe I should show som elove tot he Eurofighter crowd. Maybe something with big flat areas like an F-117 or B-2.

Re: February Painters Contest (Birdfarm)
We should most definitely paint Eurofighters, Rafales and Gripens for March or April. That would be incredibly badass.

I'd love to see a chopper/helo pack to paint for sometime. I think though, whatever there is and as long as others are participating in the painting, I'll be able to make something reasonable.

Re: February Painters Contest (Birdfarm)
I had two collections, one civilian and one military. There was never really any contest involved, and the Farm seems to be better organized, so I don't plan to continue either of my packs.
